Good to know

## Before you make the timetable

Short answers on periods, how many of each subject, and where to put them in the day.

### How many periods in a school day?

Most schools fit seven or eight periods of 35 to 45 minutes into the day, with a short break mid-morning and a longer one for lunch. Younger classes often have shorter periods. Set yours in step 3; the times on the timetable follow.

### How many periods of each subject?

Count the week’s periods first: eight a day for six days is 48. Then share them out, with the most to the subjects that need daily practice. One example for a middle-school class:

| Maths | 8 a week |

| English | 7 a week |

| Science | 7 a week |

| Hindi | 6 a week |

| Social Science | 6 a week |

| Sanskrit or a third language | 4 a week |

| Computer, Art, Games, Library | 10 a week between them |

### Where to put each subject in the day

There is no fixed rule, but these habits make a week that works.

- Maths and Science in the first half, while the class is fresh

- The same subject at a different time on different days

- Not two periods of one subject back to back, except a practical

- Games and Art after the break or at the end of the day

### One teacher, many classes

A teacher can be in only one room a period. Once every class’s timetable is made, go down each teacher’s name and check they aren’t in two classes in the same period on the same day.

**Changing the timetable every time a teacher is away?** In Scoolin, the timetable rings the school bells, and when a teacher is on leave it suggests a free teacher for each of their periods.

FAQ

## About timetables.

**Something else?** Scoolin keeps every class’s timetable in its apps. [See it on a call](https://scoolin.com/demo) .

### Can I make timetables for every class?

Yes. Add each class in step 2; **Copy this class** starts the next one from the one shown, with its subjects and teachers. In step 5, choose **Every class** to print them all, one to a page.

### Can periods be of different lengths?

Yes. Each period and break has its own minutes in step 3, and the times on the timetable work themselves out from the time school starts.

### Does it check that a teacher isn’t in two classes at once?

Not yet. Each class’s timetable is made on its own, so check a teacher’s periods across classes before you print.

### Can students use it for a study timetable?

Yes. Name the timetable what you like in step 2, and use the periods as study slots and the subjects as what you study.

### Are the details uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything you type stays in this browser, on this computer; nothing is sent to Scoolin. It is kept for the next time you open the page. **Start over** clears it.

### Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up and no limit on classes. A small line at the foot of the page says it was made at scoolin.com.
