Refunds and cancellation
How to cancel a plan, what happens when you do, and the few cases where money is refunded.
The free plan
The free plan costs nothing, so there is nothing to cancel or refund. A school on it can close its account at any time.
Cancelling a plan
The school owner can cancel a paid plan at any time from Settings → Billing in Scoolin, or by writing to us from the contact page.
- The plan keeps working until the end of the period already paid for. We remind you a week before it ends.
- Then the account moves to the free plan. Nothing is deleted; to delete the data too, close the account.
- Moving to a smaller plan also takes effect at the end of the paid period.
Monthly plans
Monthly plans are paid a month at a time, in advance. Cancelling stops the next charge. The month already paid for is not refunded, and the plan runs until it ends.
Yearly plans
Yearly plans cost less than twelve monthly payments, because they are paid for the year in advance.
- First 14 days: if the school cancels within 14 days of its first yearly payment, we refund that payment in full.
- After that: the year is not refunded. The plan runs to the end of the year and doesn’t renew.
- The 14-day refund applies to a school’s first yearly payment only, not to renewals.
When we always refund
Whatever the plan, we refund in full:
- a payment taken twice for the same period;
- a payment taken after the school cancelled in time; and
- any other payment taken in error by our billing.
And if we end a paid plan for reasons that are not the school’s fault, as the terms of use describe, we refund the unused part of any period paid in advance.
Tell us about a wrong charge within 60 days of it, so we can check it with our payment provider.
What isn’t refunded
- The rest of a month or year already started, except as sections 4 and 5 say.
- The difference when moving to a smaller plan, or when the school has fewer students than its plan allows.
- Time when the school didn’t use Scoolin, or used only part of it.
- Features marked “coming soon”: they are not part of what is paid for.
- Plans ended because the school broke the terms of use.
- Taxes, where the tax authority doesn’t return them, and bank or card charges made by the school’s own bank.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, the school keeps full access for 3 days while it updates its payment details. After that the account becomes read-only. If the payment still hasn’t gone through after 10 days, the plan is cancelled and the account moves to the free plan. Nothing is deleted.
How refunds are paid
Scoolin subscriptions are sold through our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, as the merchant of record. Approved refunds are paid by it to the card or account the payment came from, usually within 5 to 10 working days, depending on the bank. We can’t pay a refund to a different account.
Fees parents pay to schools
Scoolin doesn’t collect school fees from parents. Fees parents pay to a school, and any refund of them, are between the parent and the school. Please ask the school office.
